How to Revive a Yucca Tree

Yucca (often confused with the unrelated 'yuca') is widely grown for ornamental purposes and for the edible fruit, leaves, seeds, stems, roots and flowers that the plants bare. Like many perennials, yucca plants have their fair share of problems and can prove to be difficult to revive if proper care isn't given immediately after issues present. These problems often come in the form of yellowing leaves, wilting, shriveling stalks, browning, fungal infections and so forth. Ignoring your plant is the surest way to send it to the compost heap.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove any yellowing or damaged leaves from the plant.

    • 2

Check for root rot and remove any portions of the plant base that are beginning to rot.

    • 3

Test the moisture level of the soil. It is important to not over water. Allow the soil to dry between waterings. The plant needs only to be watered once a week.

    • 4

Ensure that the plant is in full sunlight. Consider moving the plant outdoors during the warm months and keep it in a temperature-stable area that gets plenty of sunlight during the winter.

    • 5

Support the base of the plant with rocks to prevent cracking and breaking if the plant becomes top heavy.

    • 6

Consider transplanting the yucca if the pot it currently resides in is too small. Yucca plants need large pots.

    • 7

Check the plant for disease or fungal infection if it doesn't begin to respond to revival treatment.

    • 8

Treat the plant appropriately if a disease or fungal infection is found.
