How to Fertilize a Ligustrum Tree

Ligustrum trees are evergreen trees that can grow up to 35 feet tall and 35 feet wide. Although there are 50 different species of ligustrum trees, you can expect to find dark green and glossy leaves. Ligustrum trees are commonly used in landscapes, and if you have one on your property it is important to know how to fertilize it.

  • 5-3-3 organic fertilizer

      Measure the drip line of your ligustrum tree. The drip line is the diameter from the tip of the tree branches on the left to the tip of the tree branches on the right.

      Multiply the number of feet the drip line measured by 1 cup. For example, a ligustrum tree with a drip line of 35 feet would require 35 cups of fertilizer.

      Sprinkle the designated amount of fertilizer all the way around the drip line of the ligustrum tree at the start of the spring season. Use an organic 5-3-3 fertilizer.

      Water the fertilizer into the soil with a garden hose.

      Repeat in the beginning of the summer, middle of the summer and again at the beginning of fall.
