How to Grow Seedless Vegetables

One of the most favored developments with gardeners has been the creation of hybrid plants that are seedless. The benefits are numerous, including tomato slices that are all "meat," watermelons without seeds that make picnics neater, and a variety of produce that is sturdier due to a lower water volume. Growing these fruits and vegetables is not as difficult as one might think. Even a beginning gardener can have success with these plants. Growing seedless vegetables is really no different than growing vegetables with seeds, from a gardening perspective.

Instructions

Obtain seeds. Because seedless vegetables are all hybrids, you will not be able to harvest seeds from them. Contact your local nursery or favorite gardening catalog for a list of seedless vegetables.

    • 2

Follow the instructions of the seed packages. All seed packages have recommendations for soil, light and the best planting dates. Thse are general rules, however, and you need to take your local growing conditions into consideration. If you're a complete novice to gardening, contact your local conservation department or extension office about growing conditions, or ask your gardening neighbors.

Watch for pests. While most seedless hybrid vegetables offer some resistance to mold, mildew and bugs, there are other predators such as birds, groundhogs and moles that you need to be on the lookout for in your garden. Eliminate any such threats.
