Prepare the sunny planting area by cultivating the soil with the garden spade. Loosen the soil down to a depth of about 3 to 4 inches. Add 2 inches of compost to the soil to enhance drainage and mix the compost in well. Rake the soil surface smooth.
Dig shallow holes for the plants with the trowel, spacing the holes about 2 feet apart to allow for mature spread.
Remove the blue chalk stick plants from their temporary containers and transfer each plant to a prepared hole carefully. Backfill soil around the roots to fill each hole and firm the soil gently with your hands.
Water the blue chalk stick plants thoroughly immediately after you finish planting them.
