Tropical Pink Leaf Plants

Tropical plants are species native to hot, humid areas with tropical climates. Many regions with tropical climates occur within 30 degrees to the north or south of the Earth's equator. These types of plants thrive in USDA plant hardiness zones 10 (minimum temps 30 to 40 degrees F) through 11 (40 degrees F and above). Tropical plants come in a wide assortment of styles and colors, including pink foliage.
  1. Caladium

    • Caladium plants have pink or pink-veined leaves.

      Fancy-leaved caladium (Caladium bicolor) is a tropical plant from the Araceae family. Caladiums are 12- to 24-inch-tall plants with a spread of 12 to 18 inches. These native South American plants thrive in full to partial sun with moist, humid conditions. Caladiums are ornamental plants that form heart-shaped leaves. Caladium bicolor "Pink Beauty" and "Pink Symphony" are two cultivars of fancy-leaved caladium that have pink foliage. Pink Beauty develops pink leaves with red veins and light green edges spotted with pink. Pink Symphony has light pink leaves with bright green veins and midrib.

    Episcia

    • Episcia plants have colorful leaves.

      Episcia belongs to the plant family Gesneriaceae. This tropical trailing plant is 4 to 6 inches tall with a moderate rate of growth. Episcia plants require full to partial sun with humid, warm temperatures. The 2- to 5-inch-long leaves of the Episcia plant have an oblong shape with tiny hairs. Foliage color depends on cultivars; Episcia "Pink Ric Rac" has dark bronze leaves with pink etchings and "Metallica" forms coppery leaves edged with pink and bands of silver down the leaves middle.

    Wax Plant

    • Wax plant (Hoya carnosa) is an indigenous tropical plant of India and China. This versatile plant grows to heights of 20 feet as a climbing plant or 3 to 4 feet as a hanging plant. Wax plant belongs to the Asclepiadaceae family. This colorful plant enjoys full sun and moist, well-draining soil in a humid environment. The foliage of wax plants are 3-inch-long oval-shaped leaves that develop in opposite pairings; colors vary depending on cultivars. Hoya carnosa "Exotica" is a species of wax plant with yellowish and pink leaves.

    Hawaiian Ti

    • Hawaiian ti (Cordyline terminalis) is a tropical plant that originates from Southeast Asia, Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands. This Agavaceae family plant is 3 to 6 feet tall with a spread of 3 to 8 feet. Hawaiian ti plants need bright light and well-draining soils in a humid atmosphere. The leaves of the Hawaiian ti plant have a star shape that develops on upright stems. Colors vary for Hawaiian ti plant leaves per cultivar. Cordyline terminalis "Amablis" has bronze and red leaves with spots of pink and white. Cordyline terminalis "Tricolor" forms leaves streaked with red, pink and cream.
