Flower With Petals That Are White on Top & Purple Inside

There are houseplants and garden plants with flowers that are white on top and purple inside. There are both annuals and perennials with this type bloom. Some flowering plants commonly grown outside can be brought into the house in the fall and grow as a houseplant throughout the winter. Place garden flowers with very dark-purple and white blooms where they receive afternoon shade. Hot, direct afternoon sun fades very dark colors.
  1. Clematis Vines

    • Clematis flowers often have colorful stamens and anthers at the center.

      Clematis Florida var. sieboldiana is a flowering vine growing to between 6 and 8 feet tall. It produces large, white flowers with purple centers. The flowers have six, white, pointed petals. The purple centers are the staminodes. C. "Fair Rosamond" grows to between 8 and 14 feet tall and produces white flowers with purple stamens at the center. The purple stamens on Fair Rosamond are much less profuse and showy than the staminodes on C. Florida var. sieboldiana. C. "Henryi" is 6 to 8 feet tall. It produces flowers with eight white petals and purple-brown anthers at the center.

    Daylilies

    • The darker color at the center is referred to as the eye.

      There are many hemerocallis daylily varieties with white and purple blooms. The Blueberry Candy cultivar has creamy-white flowers with violet eyes. Canadian Border Patrol flowers are creamy white with dark purple eyes and a thin dark purple line around the outer edge of the petals. Islesworth flowers are cream colored with plum eyes and a narrow plum line around the petals' outer edge. Just A Tease has ivory flowers with pinkish-purple eyes and petal edging. Pandora's Box has cream-colored flowers with a small purple eye. Piano Man has cream flowers with a plum eye. The Pony cultivar flowers do not have eyes. They have creamy-white outer petals and pale-purple inner petals with a creamy-white stripe up the center. .

    Petunias

    • Petunias also grown in the house throughout the winter.

      Petunias are commonly grown as annuals although they are herbaceous perennials in U.S. Department of Agriculture Plant Hardiness Zones 10 and 11. The plants grow to about 1 foot tall and produce funnel-shaped flowers from spring to fall. The Frost Velvet petunia has flowers that are burgundy-purple in the center with white around the outer edges. Purple Pirouette has ruffled, carnation-type flowers. Each flower petal is dark purple at the center with white around the edges. Tidal Wave Silver produces silvery white flowers with purple centers and purple veining across the petals. It is a versatile petunia that grows in mound form, in hanging baskets or as a climber.

    Gloxinias

    • Gloxinias grow as houseplants and in flower gardens.

      Sinningia speciosa is a commonly grown houseplant with many hybrid cultivars that bloom in purple and white. One of the most well-known varieties is gloxinia. Tuberous gloxinias can be grown outside as annuals or the tubers can be lifted in the fall and re-planted in the spring. The large trumpet-shaped flowers can be white on the outside and purple on the inside with white edging or white throat. Florist gloxinias grow from roots and are kept as houseplants. Sinningia speciosa "Carangola" was used to create the florist gloxinia hybrid. It has the same large rich green fuzzy leaves as florist and tuberous gloxinia but the trumpet shaped flowers are smaller. The flowers have clear snowy white petal lobes with purple throats.
