Instructions

    • 1

Place a flat rock into the bottom of the aquarium and insert the watermelon chalice on top of it. Do not place the watermelon chalice on rocks that are near the top of the aquarium because they require nutrients that filter down to the bottom.

    • 2

Insert an aquarium thermometer into the water to ensure that it maintains a constant temperature of between 74 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit. If needed, install an aquarium heater in the water and set the thermostat to within this temperature range.

    • 3

Insert one of the strips from the pH tester kit into the water. Wait until it changes color and compare the color to the provided chart to determine the pH. If the pH is higher or lower than 8.1 to 8.4, add a pH adjuster liquid using the amounts specified on the bottle

    • 4

Feed the watermelon chalice once per week by placing small shrimp into the center of each colored eye, which is where the mouths are located. Alternatively, you can feed it cut up pieces of squid or phytoplankton.

    • 5

Place a 400-watt metal halide light over the aquarium and leave it on constantly to provide the low levels of light required by this species. Although the watermelon chalice can tolerate higher levels of light, the coloring is not as intense.
