Measure 2 tsp. of Peters fertilizer into the bucket for each gallon of water you will add. Plan on adding at least 1 gallon of water less than the capacity of the bucket, so that you can stir the contents without splashing or spilling.
Add 1 tsp. of Epsom salts into the bucket for each gallon of water you will add. The Epsom salts add essential elements necessary to hydroponics that are not generally found in fertilizers intended for use on soil-based plants.
Pour water into the bucket. Add about half the amount you need, and mix thoroughly before adding the rest. Stir again to ensure the entire contents of the bucket are well mixed and uniform.
Fill the hydroponic system tank with the fertilizer mixture. How much you need will depend on the size of the system you are using. If you need more than one bucket full of nutrients, mix additional Peters fertilizer, Epsom salts and water as described until you have made enough for your system.
Check the liquid nutrient level in the hydraulic system on a regular basis. Some systems must be checked daily, while others can be checked weekly, depending on the size and number of plants, the air temperature where the system is operating and the type of system you are using.
Top off the nutrient tank with plain water if the level drops below the needed amount. Adding more Peters fertilizer mixture at this point can cause a buildup of salts and will result in problems with your plants.
Discard the old solution after two weeks. Mix a new batch of nutrient solution in water using Peters fertilizer and Epsom salts, and refill the hydroponic tank.
