How to Hang Flower Boxes on a Round Iron Fence

Flower and window boxes overflowing with petunias, geraniums or other colorful blooms lend an atmosphere of luxury and cheerfulness to a deck or balcony. If your fencing is made from round iron pipes, you can use window box brackets to hang the flower boxes on the fence. As long as you select brackets that are the correct size, you will have no problem hanging your flower boxes in an attractive display.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the diameter of the top railing of your round iron fence. Measure the depth and bottom width of your flower boxes.

    • 2

Buy at least two window box brackets for each flower box according to the measurements you took in step 1. The hook part of the bracket must be large enough to fit over the fence's top railing. The straight parts of the brackets must fit the other dimensions of your flower boxes. For example, the straight part of the bracket coming off the hooked part must be long enough to accommodate the depth of the flower box. If the bracket is designed to support the flower box on the bottom and extend to the front, that part must be long enough to accommodate the bottom width of the flower box. If possible, take the flower box with you to the store to buy the right-sized brackets.

Place the two brackets on the top railing of the round iron fence--close enough together so the flower box can sit on them without support. Put the flower box on the brackets and ensure there is equal space between the ends of the flower box and the brackets.

Put one bracket on each side of a vertical support post in the fence, if the flower box falls forward. The flower box should straddle a vertical support, if it doesn't lean against a lower railing or wall on its rear bottom edge.
