How to Grow Peppers in the AeroGarden

Peppers are bright and productive in home gardens, but grow only during the summer season and require specific lighting and spacing. Gardeners with restricted outdoor space or temperatures grow the plants indoors, in pots or specialty gardens like the AeroGarden. This variation on hydroponic gardening eliminates all soil, oxygenates the water for better growing and nurtures plants in individual, contained pods. Plant your peppers in the AeroGarden, keep them in the right place and use water-soluble nutrients for successful growing.

Instructions

    • 1

Start pepper seedlings at any time of year in the AeroGarden. This system does best indoors, and so protects peppers from frost and cold temperatures.

    • 2

Secure the seeds or seedlings in their growing pods so that the foliage sits above the pod and the roots dangle below. Loosen the roots and brush off any old potting soil, to better expose them to water. If the roots still have soil on them, rinse them in lukewarm water to avoid contaminating the system. Place the pods in their places in the AeroGarden.

    • 3

Mix hydroponic nutrients with water, per manufacturer directions, and fill the water tray. These nutrients replace soil in the growing situation, and give the pepper plants the vitamins and minerals they need to grow and produce fruit. Always put nutrient solution in the water in a hydroponic garden. Use nutrients for fruit and pepper plants to encourage growth and fruiting.

    • 4

Put the AeroGarden in a spot with full natural or artificial light all day. Peppers require six to eight hours of light daily to grow, bloom and fruit, and won't bear their harvest without adequate lighting. Ideal pepper temperatures range from 70 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit.
