Repotting Jasminum Sambacs

Jasminum sambac, also known as Arabian jasmine, is a blooming evergreen that can grow up to 10 feet tall outdoors in U.S. Department of Agriculture plant hardiness zones 10 and 11. It can also grow indoors in a pot where it typically reaches a height of about 5 feet. Whether you want to repot your Jasminum sambac because you prefer a different container, or because it's outgrown its old pot, be sure to stress the plant as little as possible.

Instructions

    • 1

Wait until the Jasminum sambac is finished blooming, if applicable. If you repot the plant while it's flowering, the stress may cause it to stop blooming early.

    • 2

Water the plant well so the soil is evenly moist about one to two days before repotting it. This will get the Jasminum sambac well hydrated before the transition.

    • 3

Prepare the new pot. If the plant outgrew its old pot, choose one that's 1 to 2 inches wider. Fill the pot about halfway with rich, high-quality all-purpose potting soil that features good water drainage.

    • 4

Remove the Jasminum sambac from the soil using your hands or a trowel. You can keep the soil intact around the roots.

    • 5

Set the plant in the new pot and dig a hole if necessary to accommodate all of the root ball. Fill in more potting soil so the Jasminum sambac is planted at the same depth as it was in the old pot.
