Tea Tree Oil for Mite Control on Plants

Protecting Plants

• Tea tree oil can prove invaluable in keeping mites and certain types of grubs off your plants. To make a highly effective natural insect repellent, pour 2 ounces of tea tree oil into a clean, empty spray bottle, then fill the remainder of the bottle with water to dilute the oil.

Precautions

• Because tea tree oil will cause damage to your plants if applied directly, spray your homemade insect repellent in the general area of the plants as opposed to right on them.

Mosquitoes

• In addition to keeping mites away from your garden, tea tree oil can help keep outdoor gardeners safe from mosquito bites. Spray the oil-and-water mixture onto any exposed areas of your skin to repel mosquitoes naturally. Exercise caution when spraying, as tea tree oil should not be ingested.

Lice

• Not only is tea tree oil an effective weapon against garden pests, it has also been shown to get rid of head lice. To combat lice, apply 2 drops of tea tree oil to your scalp two to three times daily over a three-month period. The Head Lice Center advises against utilizing this method of lice-purging during the first three months of a pregnancy or if the infected party is breastfeeding.
