Instructions

    • 1

Cut as much grass as you need to make the desired thickness of rope, using sharp scissors. When bundled together, the grass will be half the diameter of the finished rope. If you want the grass to grow back again, leave 3 inches of grass growing above the soil.

    • 2

Bundle the grass together and trim the ends to make them all a uniform length.

    • 3

Leave the grass in a single layer on a mesh drying rack to dry out in the sun. If you skip this step, the grass will eventually mold.

    • 4

Fold the bundle of grass in half to make two bundles. Secure the folded end to an anchor, such as your knee or a doorknob, using a piece of twine or more grass.

    • 5

Tightly twist one of the bundles clockwise and cross it under the other bundle counterclockwise. Pinch the crossed portion to hold it in place.

    • 6

Tightly twist the other bundle clockwise and cross it under the first bundle counterclockwise. Tightly pinch the intersection point.

    • 7

Continue twisting alternating bundles clockwise, crossing them under counterclockwise and pinching the intersection point until the rope is as long as you wish. Tie several strands of grass or twine around the bottom of the rope to prevent it from unraveling.
