How to Repot a Nepenthes Miranda

Nepenthes "Miranda" is a tropical pitcher plant commonly called monkey cups because in the wild, the monkeys drink the fluid from the plant’s pitchers. These pitchers are traps that form from a swelling in the vein of some leaves and attract insects. This carnivorous plant is native to Australia and Southeast Asia and requires orchid-like conditions to grow. Repot Nepenthes "Miranda" when it outgrows its present pot, dries out quickly after watering, or the growing media breaks down.

Instructions

    • 1

Obtain a pot 1 to 2 inches or one size larger than the pot currently holding the plant. Do not use clay pots, since salts often build up on clay.

    • 2

Mix 6 parts unmilled sphagnum moss with 4 parts perlite. Add a few inches of the growing medium into the pot.

    • 3

Remove the Nepenthes "Miranda" from its pot and place it in the new pot.

    • 4

Add more potting mix around the plant, but don’t firm the mix as this may injure the fragile fine roots.

    • 5

Water the Nepenthes well to settle the growing medium around the roots.
