How to Get Rid of Leaf-Footed Stinkbugs

The leaf-footed stinkbug is common where pecan trees are prevalent. It is distinguished by its brown color, long body and flat hind legs, which are shaped like leaves. These insects prefer to feed on fruits and vegetables but also dine on other plants. They damage the plant by sucking on the sap. Furthermore, they are considered pests and can be nuisances in your garden and especially so when they find their way into your home.

Instructions

    • 1

Put on gardening gloves then pull up any weeds in your garden by their roots. Weeds can harbor leaf-footed stink bugs; and if you don't remove the entire root, the weeds will grow back.

    • 2

Spray the front yard and the back of your property with a pesticide that contains bifenthrin, which attacks the nervous system of leaf-footed stinkbugs. Focus on the areas around your garden, shrubs and exterior walls, as well as window exteriors and doorjambs.

    • 3

Inspect your home for any holes in the windows, screens or doors. Stinkbugs only need a small opening to get into your home. Patch up any holes you find.

    • 4

Connect a hose attachment to your vacuum cleaner and vacuum up any stinkbugs you find in your home.

    • 5

Spray any leaf-footed stinkbugs you see in your home with a water and soap mixture. This is not as effective as a pesticide, but it is safer for indoor use if you have small children or pets.
