Germination of African Daisy Seeds

African daisies (Osteospermum ecklonis) provide a colorful display in the garden including apricot, yellow, orange and white. The flowers open on sunny days and close at night or on cloudy days. Germinate its seeds directly in the ground or in pots indoors.

    • The temperature indoors or outdoors must be between 60 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit for African daisy seeds to germinate. Wait until all chances of frost have passed before sowing the seeds outdoors. If you are starting the seeds indoors, plant the seeds six to eight weeks before the last frost date in spring.

    • The seeds germinate in 10 to 21 days. Keep the soil moist for germination. Use a misting bottle to water the seeds and soil so as not to drown or wash away the seeds. Once the seedlings appear, use a light spray on a spray bottle or garden hose to moisten the soil.
