Possible Pumpkin Colors

White

• White pumpkins add a ghostly appeal to Halloween displays and range from the miniature softball-size "Baby Boo" to full-size "Full Moon". Other white pumpkins are "Lumina" and "Valenciano."

Blues, Greens and Grays

• Several pumpkin varieties are blue, green and blue-green. "Marina Di Chioggia," which is an Italian heirloom pumpkin, features a blue-green skin with a knobby texture. It is prized for baking, but makes a striking Jack-o-lantern of a different color. "Queensland Blue," an Australian pumpkin variety. features a blue-green skin with deep ribbing and also is prized for baking. "Jarrahdale," which is native to Australia, has gray-green skin with deep ribs.

Striped or Variegated

• Several pumpkin cultivars produce striking variegated versions of the traditional orange color. "La Estrella" is orange with gray-green stripes, while "Kakai" is orange with dark green ribs and "Cushaw" ranges from cream to gold with green stripes. "American Tondra" develops to a golden orange or yellow with deep green ribs

Reds and Pinks

• Pumpkins aren't limited to earthy shades. Unusual shades of red and pink add variety to autumn displays. "Red Warty" ripens to bright red and has warts, making it an unusual pumpkin specimen. "Rouge Vif d'Estampes," a French heirloom variety, and "Red Lakota," an American heirloom variety, ripen to shades of pink, red and red-orange.
