Night Blooming Purple Flowers

Planting purple flowers that bloom only at night next to day-blooming flowers creates an attractive show 24 hours a day. When deciding which night-blooming purple flowers to choose, consider the location you will plant the flower and the care requirements for that species. Planting the flower in the wrong location may prove disastrous for the plant.
  1. Evening Stock

    • This small plant opens in the evening to reveal purple, fragrant flowers that have a scent similar to vanilla, spice or clove. These blooms will last throughout the summer months. Evening stock prefers full sun but can tolerate partial shade. This annual plant requires well-drained soil to keep it thriving.

    Night Phlox

    • Also called night candy, night phlox has pinkish purple blooms with a pleasant fragrance. The night phlox blooms from midsummer to early fall and attracts wildlife such as birds and butterflies. This plant handles tough conditions such as drought well.     • Available in various colors, including a purplish pink, evening primrose is a common wildflower found growing throughout the United States. This low-growing plant reaches heights up to 18 inches, and its blooms open during the evening. Evening primrose tolerates water stress well and is typically easy to care for. This perennial plant thrives in well-drained soil and full sun.

    Jasmine Tobacco

    • Jasmine tobacco -- also called winged tobacco -- produces blooms in a purplish maroon that open in the late evening. This flower can grow up to 24 inches high and produces a pleasant fragrant. To ensure the life of the jasmine tobacco, plant in full sun with good drainage and hydrate when the soil becomes dry.
