Trimming a Yucca Palm

Yucca palms grow abundantly in arid regions, preferring sunny to partly shady growing locations. During the active growing season, healthy yucca palms may produce an attractive bloom in the center of the plant that rises above the foliage. A yucca palm does not require extensive pruning; however, you might need to trim a yucca palm to keep it neat and healthy.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut back the flower stalk just above the base of the plant with the pruning shears after the flowers fade on the plant.

    • 2

Place the stalk into the bucket after you remove it from the plant. Disposal of the plant refuse keeps the growing area clean, which reduces the chance of disease.

    • 3

Examine the yucca plant in the spring when the growing season begins, looking for dead or diseased leaves. If you find old growth, cut it off at the base of the plant with the pruning shears. Place all leaves into the bucket.
