How to Count Wheat Yields

Counting the yield of a wheat crop will result in only an inexact estimate unless you wait until the wheat is mature and the harvest is complete. For accuracy, only when the wheat is harvested and weighed can the formula be used which calculates bushels per acre for the given crop year.

Instructions

    • 1

      Harvest the wheat crop.

    • 2

Determine the exact poundage of the wheat crop you've harvested. The grain elevator where the wheat is sold will do this.

    • 3

Determine the acreage area from the field from which the wheat was harvested.

    • 4

Divide the total poundage of wheat harvested by 60, as there are 60 pounds of wheat per bushel. This figure is the total number of bushels harvested.

    • 5

Divide the number of bushels by the number of acres harvested. This figure is the bushels per acre yield number.
