How to Transplant From the AeroGarden to Dirt

With a soil-free AeroGarden, you can grow a variety of herbs, vegetables and flowers in your home with little more than sunshine and water. Plants grow in the AeroGarden when you place specially created pods in the machine and provide a water source. After the plants in the pods have germinated, you can transfer them from the AeroGarden to your outdoor garden. To do this, you need to help acclimate the plants to their new home in the ground.

Instructions

    • 1

Prepare a container, or several containers, for the plants in your AeroGarden. The size and number of the containers depends on the size and number of your plants. Fill each container with quality potting soil.

    • 2

Unplug the AeroGarden's power cable from the electrical outlet. Lift the grow surface out of the base.

    • 3

Hold the grow surface over a sink and carefully lift the seed pods out of the tray. Place each seed pod in one of the soil-filled containers. Gently cover the roots with soil. Keep the soil moist.

    • 4

Place the containers indoors in a sunny location. During this time, the plants will start to develop the stronger root systems that they need to survive in your garden.

    • 5

Keep the containers indoors for several days. Every day, set the containers outside for a few hours to acclimate the plants to the outdoor temperature and wind.

    • 6

Select a spot in your garden where the plants will grow permanently. Dig holes in the garden that are large enough to support the plant's root systems.

    • 7

Remove the plants from their containers. Set each plant in the prepared garden bed and fill the bed with soil.
