How to Get Rid of Jumping Shrimp Insects

Jumping shrimp are a type of amphipod that live on land instead of in the ocean. This means that the tiny shrimp-like creatures are actually crustaceans and not insects at all, even though they resemble small worms. Living on land proves difficult for jumping shrimp when they are not able to maintain a moist environment. Getting rid of them does not have to prove difficult as long as you follow a few simple steps.

Instructions

    • 1

Spray residual contact insecticide in doorways of your home that lead to the outdoors. This will help to eliminate new jumping shrimp from entering your home.

    • 2

Vacuum dead jumping shrimp in your home to get rid of their bodies.

    • 3

Dry out areas outside your home that have wet mulch or ground cover. Spread the mulch or ground cover over a larger area in the sun before placing it back near sidewalks and walkways.

    • 4

Remove any small pools of water from outside of your home. Do not leave water sitting uncovered in buckets or containers.
