Store the orchid in a room with a temperature between 64 to 68 degrees Fahrenheit to prevent further wilting. Orchids do not fare well in high temperatures, as the flower will dry out and experience a shortened lifespan.
Water the plant twice a week. Do not allow water to sit at the bottom of the saucer to avoid root rot. Feel the soil to determine if the orchid needs water, as extremely dry soil is a clear indication the orchid is dehydrated. Avoid using hard water to hydrate the orchid, as the minerals in hard water affect the health of the flower. Over-watering the orchid, like any other plant, affects the soil's ability to breathe and increases the likelihood of root rotting.
Close the blinds or pull down the shades in the room that contains the orchid. Orchids fare best with indirect sunlight, as direct sunlight exacerbates wilting.
Place a humidifier in the same room as the orchid, and turn on the humidifier to a high setting. Moisture in the air nourishes the orchid, and assists in restoring a dying orchid. A portable humidifier is suitable for nursing the orchid or you can place a pot filled with filtered water on top of a warm radiator to naturally add moisture to the air.
