Place your Ascocenda orchid in a location with bright light. Ascocenda orchids need more light than the shade-loving species, but they do not want direct or full sun. If grown indoors, they enjoy being placed outdoors in a semi-shady location in the warmer parts of the year.
Spray your orchid daily with water during warm weather. Indoors, provide constant humidity by placing pebble-filled trays half-filled with water directly under your orchid's basket, or run a humidifier in the room during the day if the room is warm. Cut back spraying to once a week in cool weather, unless it is growing in a hot, dry, heated environment, then continue to spray daily.
Spray your Ascocenda orchid every other week with a full-strength solution of orchid fertilizer during warm weather and once a month during cool weather. Spray with a full-strength orchid bloom fertilizer once a month during the growing season to encourage blooming.
Provide good air circulation to prevent root rot and fungal leaf problems. Remove flower stems and leaves when they begin to die. Since the aerial roots are the main way the plant receives water and nutrients, they shouldn't be pruned unless diseased or dying.
Treat fungal diseases with a fungicide approved for orchids. Do not use copper fungicides on orchids, because they are sensitive to copper. Control orchid scale with a natural organic oil such as ultrafine oil or neem oil. Spray oils only during the cooler parts of the day to avoid leaf burn.
