Getting a Vanda Orchid to Rebloom

Vanda orchid refers to a genus of flowering plants consisting of about 50 species. The blooms of the Vanda orchid are vibrantly colored and last for up to four months given appropriate care. When the orchid’s bloom dies, you can take steps to get the Vanda to rebloom, producing another flower in the same season. A bit of hands-on work, paired with careful nurturing of the plant, is essential for getting a Vanda orchid to rebloom.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut the orchid’s flower spike halfway down after the last bloom has fallen with a clean, sharp razorblade. Using a dirty or dull cutting implement can cause damage or infection to your Vanda orchid, preventing rebloom.

    • 2

Take a pinch of ground cinnamon and apply it to the cut end of the flower spike. This will prevent the stem from becoming infected and harming your Vanda orchid. Alternatively, you can seal the cut end with a small amount of melted candle wax.

Continue to care for your Vanda orchid as normal until it blooms again. This should take between one and three months. The Vanda orchid’s new bloom should last between two and four months.
