How to Grow Orchids in Semi Hydroponic Pots

Nearly any plant , including orchids, can be grown hydroponically. Plants that require a lot of water do particularly well in a hydroponics or semi-hydroponics system. Several companies manufacture and sell pre-made semi-hydroponics systems, but before you purchase these potentially expensive systems, you can make a homemade version in order to determine whether the larger purchase is worth your money.

Instructions

    • 1

Make 1 1/2-inch holes in the bottom of the container, using a drill.

    • 2

Fill the container one-third full with clay pellets.

    • 3

Position your orchid plant over the clay pellets. Hold your orchid where you want it.

    • 4

Add clay pellets a little at a time while still holding your orchid in the desired position. Shake the pot every now and again to make sure the medium is getting into the root ball.

    • 5

Add medium until the orchid's root is covered. Pour water and any nutrients you wish to give your orchid into the container with the clay pellets.

    • 6

Flush the pot every once in a while with plain water to get rid off any nutrient buildup that may have accumulated in the pot. Water your plant when you see the water level very low in the reservoir, adding desired nutrients into the water as necessary.
