How to Make Cymbidium Orchids Bloom

Orchids are a unique and exotic flower. They have become popular with home growers due to their delicate, beautiful flowers and long blooming times. Cymbidium orchids are a cold-tolerant breed of orchid from the mountains of China and Japan. Like all orchids, their needs are specific. Instructions

    • 1

Pot cymbidium orchids in an appropriate medium. Fill a 3- to 6-inch pot halfway with perlite, bark, redwood compost, fern fiber, peat moss or vermiculite, and then moisten it. Spread the orchid's roots over the potting foundation and put more of the medium over the roots to fill the pot. A good potting medium with adequate air circulation will encourage orchid blooming.

    • 2

Place your pot in a spot where it will get enough light for cymbidium orchid growing. Your cymbidium orchid needs at least 12 hours of filtered sunlight or UV light every day, especially during the springs, summer and fall growing season. Inadequate light is the most common reason for failed cymbidium orchid blooming.

    • 3

Water cymbidium orchids two to three times a week in summer and once a week in winter. Fertilize the orchid with 10-10-10 fertilizer once a month with your waterings to give cymbidium orchids the nutrition required for blooming.
