How to Make Orchid Potting Mix

Orchids grow all over the world in a range of climates from tropical rain forests to the arctic tundra. Most orchids that grow in the home are the tropical variety, however. Orchids usually don't grow in soil mixtures like normal houseplants. They have air roots that need moisture and nutrients from porous materials and soil is too dense for them. A mixture of organic and inorganic material makes the best orchid potting mixture.
