Set the phalaenopsis in an east or south-facing window, or in an area that receives bright but not direct sunlight.
Place the plant in a room where it will receive at least 70 percent humidity. Run a circulating fan on its lowest settings to provide gentle air movement. Place the plant on a saucer that contains a layer of gravel. Cover the gravel with water to further increase the humidity.
Keep the indoor temperature between 75 to 82 during the day and 63 to 65 degrees during the night.
Water a phalaenopsis once every seven to 10 days, more frequently during the winter when the humidity is lower. Give it a thorough watering, allowing the soil to almost completely dry between waterings.
Apply a slow-release fertilizer with equal parts of N-P-K, once every two weeks, applying it at half-strength. You can switch to a high-phosphorous fertilizer (3 parts P per 1 part N and K) when the plants begin setting their flower buds, usually in November.
Establish a schedule to monitor the plant for common pests. Treat the pests with insecticides promptly upon their detection.
