How to Care for a Twinkle Star Orchid

Oncidium Twinkle is a mini-orchid with a vanilla-like fragrance. It blooms profusely, producing 1/2-inch pink, red, white or yellow blossoms. The flower stems develop six months before the blooms appear. In its natural habitat, the plant grows on tree trunks and rocks with roots exposed to the air, from which they draw moisture and nutrients. As a houseplant, Oncidium Twinkle is simple to keep, especially when compared to other orchids.

  Fill a small orchid pot with orchid potting mix. Plant the roots of the Oncidium Twinkle in it. Every spring, take the plant out of the pot gently. Wash the container and repot the orchid using new potting mix. .

Oncidium Twinkle requires a daytime temperature of 68 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit. In winter, the nighttime temperature should range from 55 to 65 degrees.

  Irrigate the plant whenever the soil is dry at a depth of 1 inch. Water until excess moiture emerges from the drain holes.

  Select an orchid fertilizer and feed the Oncidium every other week in the growing season. Reduce fertilization to once a month in winter. Follow the application rates on the manufacturer's label.
