Purple Orchid Flower Craft

Purple orchids originated in Greece and were thought to represent virility. While commonly found as floral arrangements in the home or throughout the garden, they are also used in a variety of craft projects. Whether searching for a simple project for the home or would like craft ideas on using this flower as a gift item, the purple orchid is versatile and easily adaptable.
  1. Fashion Accessories

    • Create unique and exquisite accessory items to complement any wardrobe ensemble with purple orchids. Working with them is easy, and they are cost effective, as they may be found in gardens, parks and other outdoor spaces. Placing a single orchid flower behind the ear creates a look of elegance, or using string to tie pairs of orchids onto a headband creates a one-of-a-kind headband. Complete the headband by using a hot glue gun to incorporate feathers or strings of miniature pearls. For the headband, you may prefer to work with a silk orchid flower rather than a fresh orchid flower for a longer lifespan.

    Special Events

    • Incorporate purple orchids into special events via the decoration or as a gift. The orchids may be entwined with the flower girls' baskets or used as a centerpiece at a wedding. Place the whole orchid flower vines into a clear vase, which is then filled with water and finished by adding some exotic fishes to the mix. If hosting a luau, offering guests a lei made from purple orchids is traditional.

    Home Accessories

    • Purple orchids add an exotic touch of color and scent to the home. Dried and slightly brittle, use orchid flowers in a fragrant potpourri. Using old pantyhose, snip off a section large enough to hold the potpourri. The dried flower petals and anything else you'd like to include into the mix, such as pieces of a cinnamon stick or coffee beans, should then be placed in the center of the pantyhose before tying the ends together.

    Gift Suggestions

    • Consider making a purple orchid candle or pressing the flower into a decorative work of art. To create a purple orchid candle, paint glue onto the orchid petals and carefully position the petals directly onto the wax candle of your choice with tweezers. Cover the candle with a decoupage sealer and let dry for a minimum of one hour. To press the orchid, simply place it onto your favorite photo or background. Place a sheet of wax paper on top and lay a heavy brick or a stack of books on the wax paper for approximately one week. After one week, remove the weight and wax paper, and then place the pressed orchid with its background in a frame to give as a gift.
