Centerpieces With Orchids in Water Vase

Traditional styles of flower arrangements include pyramids of carnations or rounded mounds of inexpensive blossoms. Be more artistic with your designs. Elevate your arrangements to a level of contemporary elegance with orchids and clear glass vases. Even a novice can achieve professional results.
  1. Orchids and Roses

    • White roses complement orchids in arrangements.

Combine classic elements with contemporary design. Fill a tall cylindrical clear glass vase with clear marbles. Add water. Insert five tall stems of white phalaenopsis orchids into the center of the marbles. The orchids should extend well above the rim of the vase. Purchase a florist's green foam ring and soak it in water. Place the ring into a shallow round dish that measures the same diameter. Place the vase with orchids in the center of the ring. Secure the bottom of the vase to the dish with floral putty. Trim the stems of large white roses to 3 inches. Insert them into the foam until the foam is completely covered.

    Orchids and Hydrangeas

    • Accent your orchids with hydrangeas for a unique arrangement.

Choose a tall, wide clear glass vase with a rectangular shape. Set a shorter, narrow, cylindrical clear glass vase in the center of your large vase. A small piece of florist's putty on the bottom will secure it in place. Fill the small vase with water. Place several tall stems of your favorite orchids in it. Trim the stems off of fresh hydrangeas and place the flowers into the large vase so it is completely filled with blossoms. Add water until the hydrangeas are submerged.

    Orchids with Mixed Flowers

    • Fill a large clear, square, glass vase with white or green beach glass. Cut a piece of floral foam about 4 inches thick that will sit on top of the rim of your vase. Use narrow florist's green tape to secure it to the vase. Cover the foam with assorted green foliage. Allow some sprigs to trail down the sides of the vase. Stand five tall stems of dendrobium or phalaenopsis orchids in the center of the foam. Arrange short stems of roses, wax flowers and alstroemeria around the base of the orchids. Display the container on a tiled mirror with scattered rose petals and votive candles.

    Tiered Arrangement

    • Mound carnations to cover the foam.

Choose a 16-inch-high clear glass cylindrical vase about 6 inches in diameter. Fill it with clear marbles. Trim florist's green foam to sit on the top of the rim. Tape it in place with floral tape. Fill a smaller cylindrical glass vase with clear marbles. Center it on the foam and anchor it with tape.Trim foam to sit on the rim of the smaller vase and tape it. Use U-shaped pins to cover both pieces of foam with sheet moss. Stand several tall curved stems of orchids and bear grass in the center of the top foam. Cut stems of mini carnations short and cover the top foam with them. Cut large carnations' stems short and cover the bottom piece of foam with them. Scatter rose blossoms and petals around the base of the arrangement.
