How to Set Up a Jump Start T5 Light Fixture

The Jump Start T5 light fixture uses full-spectrum fluorescent bulbs to simulate sunlight. The fixture can be raised or lowered, depending on the needs of your plants. Starting seeds requires lowering the light fixture to between 2 and 4 inches from your planter. The design of the Jump Start fixture allows you to adjust the height of the fixture, as necessary, to keep the light within 2 to 4 inches above the seedling plants.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay out the parts to your Jump Start light stand. These parts include two square bar legs, two 18-inch long square bar feet, one top square channel bar with installed hanging cord, screws, washers, the T5 fluorescent light fixture and full-spectrum T5 fluorescent light bulbs.

    • 2

Position one of the Jump Start legs in the center of one of the 18-inch feet. Thread a washer over one of the screws. Insert the screw through the bottom of the foot and into the leg then tighten it to secure the foot to the leg. Repeat for the remaining leg and foot.

    • 3

Install the channel bar onto the two legs. The channel bar has two square openings on the bar that slip over the legs. The openings also have a small circular opening in them for the spring button at the top of each leg to snap into.

    • 4

Stand the Jump Start light fixture frame up on its feet. Position the frame over the growing table.

    • 5

Place the T5 fluorescent light fixture on the table with the bottom face-up. Find the fluorescent sockets that lie flat against the fixture at each end. Rotate the sockets up to sit perpendicular to the light fixture. The sockets will snap into place. Turn the fixture over.

    • 6

Grab the two ends of the hanging cord from the bottom of the channel bar by the S-hooks. Pull the cords until they reach the light fixture.

    • 7

Insert the S-hooks into the opening on the back of the light fixture. Use a pair of pliers to squeeze the S-hooks closed to keep them from pulling out of the fixture.

    • 8

Insert the full-spectrum T5 bulbs into the fixture. Plug the fluorescent light fixture into a grounded wall outlet.

    • 9

Raise the fixture by pulling the hanging cord at the end of the fixture's frame. The cord raises and lowers the fixture, much like raising and lowing window blinds. Pull the cord to one side to release the cord from the cord locks in the frame. Lock the fixture into position by pulling the hanging cord to the opposite side.
