How to Take Care of an Indoor Dracaena Lemon-Lime Plant

Lemon lime dracaena (Warneckii 'Lemon Lime') is a colorful plant with dark green and lime green stripes running the length of the long, sword-shaped leaves. Unlike most brightly colored plants, lemon lime dracaena tolerates low light. It is smaller than most types of dracaena, reaching heights of 24 to 36 inches at maturity. Lemon lime dracaena is a durable, low-maintenance plant that works well in both home and office environments.

Instructions

    • 1

Place lemon lime dracaena where the plant is exposed to low or moderate light. Although most dracaena varieties thrive in moderate to bright light, the lemon lime variety is an exception.

    • 2

Water lemon lime dracaena when the top of the soil feels dry to the touch. Water the plant until water runs through the drainage hole, and then allow the soil to dry before watering again. Never allow the pot to stand in water.

    • 3

Fertilize lemon lime dracaena monthly during spring and summer, using a liquid fertilizer for indoor plants. Alternatively, use a time-release fertilizer. Apply fertilizer according to the rate indicated on the container.

    • 4

Keep lemon lime dracaena in daytime temperatures of 60 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit, and nighttime temperatures about 10 degrees cooler.

    • 5

Mist the leaves of lemon lime dracaena occasionally during the winter, as heating causes low humidity.

    • 6

Trim long stems to promote new growth, especially if the stems become spindly and bare. To trim, use pruning shears to cut the stems to the desired height.
