Trim off the oldest, least vigorous portions of the hoya plant back to soil level. Use sharp pruning shears and make all cuts as smooth as possible.
Reduce the length of the vine to keep growth in check. Make cuts just below a leaf node, which is the raised section of the stem where leaves are produced.
Remove dead, damaged and unsightly leaves as necessary to maintain an attractive appearance.
Pinch back the tips of new growth to promote fuller foliage.
Feed with high-potassium fertilizer after pruning to provide the hoya plant with the extra nutrients needed to produce new growth. Read fertilizer instructions carefully and apply the amount indicated on the package.
