How to Hang Trellis Netting Indoors

Many plants, including tomato, beans and cucumber, are climbing vines and need a trellis to attach themselves to. If you plan on growing your plants in an indoor location, their climbing needs remain the same. A nylon mesh, called trellis netting, can support up to 60 lbs. of vine and can be hung either outdoors or indoors. The netting is lightweight and manageable enough for even one person to handle.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Measure 3 inches out from the wall and place a mark. Move down the wall, 1 to 2 feet longer than the length of the trellis netting, and measure 3 inches out from the wall again. Snap a chalk line between these two marks.

    • 2

Run a stud finder over the chalk line to locate the ceiling joists. Place a small pencil mark along the chalk line to indicate each joist.

    • 3

Unroll the trellis netting and lift if up to the ceiling. Hold one of the netting's corners up to the first ceiling joist. Secure the netting to the stud with a staple, using a staple gun.

    • 4

Stretch the netting down to the next ceiling joist and secure it with a staple. Continue stretching the netting and securing it to ceiling joists until you reach the end. Place your plants on the floor in front of the trellis netting so they can climb up it.
