Keep your ficus in a warm, sunny location that receives at least six to eight hours of bright sunlight each day. Select a well-ventilated location that is free of temperature variations, such as heating vents and air conditioners. Keep the ficus in warm temperatures at all times, as it is especially sensitive to cold temperatures.
Water the ficus based on its individual needs rather than on a schedule to avoid overwatering. Check the soil's moisture levels by sticking your finger about an inch deep into the soil. Irrigate the ficus tree when the soil begins to feel slightly dry. Water the ficus at soil level to avoid getting the foliage wet. Pour the water evenly across the surface until the extra water runs evenly from the drainage holes. Allow the soil to dry slightly before watering again.
Mist the ficus plant's foliage periodically with water to promote its desired humidity levels. Complete this process throughout the growing season, as well as during the dormancy period, since indoor environments often have dry air.
Inspect the indoor ficus occasionally for pests, such as spider mites. Rinse away any insects with water and treat the ficus immediately with an insecticide to prevent infestation.
Repot the indoor ficus as it becomes root-bound in its container or about every other growing season. Repot the ficus in a clean, well-drained container with fresh, loamy soil. Never reuse the old soil but feel to reuse the container after it has been washed with warm water and soap.
