Potted House Plants With Orange Buds

Cultivating houseplants adds color to any decor and helps to reduce indoor air pollution in the house or office. Houseplants come in a wide assortment of species grown for both foliage and flowers. Buds are underdeveloped shoots that grow on the tip of a stem or axil of a leaf; buds also refer to newly formed flowers. Many varieties of houseplants produce orange flower buds that unfurl to reveal stunning blossoms in various orange tones.
  1. Tropical

    • Lipstick plant (Aeschynanthus) is an 8-inch tall tropical plant with a spread of 36 inches. This member of the Gesneriaceae family has a moderate growth rate and enjoys a humid, warm environment with moderate amounts of water. Several species of the lipstick plant produce orange-red buds including Aeschynanthus parasiticus, Aeschynanthus longicaulis and Aeschynanthus hildebrandii. Flamingo flower (Anthurium andraeanum "Tailflower") is a perennial tropical herbaceous plant cultivated as a container plant. This Araceae family plant grows to heights of 2 to 3 feet with a slow rate of growth. A year-round bloomer, flamingo flower comes in an assortment of colors like pink, white and salmon.

    Succulent

    • Kalanchoe (Kalanchoe blossfeldiana) is a hardy succulent plant grown as a low-maintenance houseplant. This Crassulaceae family plant grows to heights of 4 to 6 inches and forms orange buds. Kalanchoe is a drought-resistant plant that requires high levels of light and fast-draining soils. Cape aloe (Aloe ferox) is an erect, stiff herbaceous evergreen succulent grown as a container plant. This Asphodelaceae family member grows up to 6 feet in height with arching stems. Orange buds transform into 1-inch long tubular orange-red to orange-yellow blossoms during the winter.

This Asteraceae family plant likes well-draining, sandy soil and partial sun to partial shade. Gerbera daisies come in a large variety of colors including orange.
