Wear gloves when working with your yucca plant. Most varieties have very sharp leaves.
Grow your yucca in full sun. If outdoors, plant in the sunniest part of the yard. If indoors, place the yucca in a west- or south-facing window so it will receive the most light possible.
Place your yucca in soil that is loose and sandy. The roots rot if allowed to remain wet.
Water only when the soil is dry since yuccas are drought-resistant desert plants.
Prune aging or dead leaves from the base of the plant. Prune to control growth if your yucca is indoors and getting too tall for its location. Remove any spent stalks or flowers by cutting them off at the base.
Grow yucca in a container if you live in a region with very cold winters. Move the yucca indoors for protection during the winter months.
Fertilize only once or twice a year. Yucca does not require rich soil and may be burned by excessive fertilizing.
