How to Grow Indoor Hanging Carrots

Growing carrots and other vegetables indoors is a good option when you don't have space outside to grow them or when you want to grow the vegetables in a season when the weather outside is not ideal. A hanging planter works well if you have a sunny window for the carrots. However, make sure you take the planter down when you water it so the water that drips out does not damage flooring.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Select a 6-inch to 8-inch hanging planter for the pot.

    • 2

Fill the pot about three-quarters full with potting soil.

    • 3

Select a carrot variety for the indoor planter. Carrots often have large roots, so choose a variety with small roots, such as little finger carrots. This will be easier to grow in an indoor hanging planter.

    • 4

Moisten the soil in the planter and scatter some carrot seeds over the soil. Cover the seeds in about 1/4 inch of potting soil. Keep the planter in a sunny window.

    • 5

Place a piece of plastic wrap over the top of the planter and leave it there until the seeds germinate and begin to sprout out of the soil. The plastic wrap will help hold heat inside the pot.

Water the carrot plants so the soil remains moist. Depending on the variety you choose, the carrots should be ready for harvest between 65 and 80 days after planting.
