AeroGrow corporation manufactures a range of AeroGarden hydroponic growing appliances, in varying sizes and colors. The gardens are used to grow herbs, flowers, tree seedlings, small vegetables and fruit crops such as tomatoes. The seeds are embedded in a sponge growing medium through which nutrient-laced water travels to feed the growing plant roots. Specially calibrated grow lights are mounted under the roof of the units to mimic natural daylight. Nitrogen is critical for plant growth, but too much of it can cause leggy green foliage and diminish flowering and fruiting. Balancing the appropriate amount of nitrogen, macro-nutrients and micro-nutrients for the crop species will boost plant health and edible harvests. AeroGarden supplies a proprietary liquid nutrient with all of its seed packs, but the user is in control of how much of these nutrients are introduced into the water reservoir and when.

1
Adhere to the "Add Nutrient" light on the AeroGarden when it becomes illuminated. Add the nutrient standard of one 8-mm pack of proprietary liquid nutrient for every 1 gallon reservoir water when growing herbs, salad leaves or flowers. Increase this to 16 mm when growing fruits and vegetables or larger size ornamental plants.
-
2
Decrease the amount of nutrient liquid introduced into the reservoir when the "Add Nutrients" light comes on. This will reduce the amount of nitrogen reaching the plant roots. Experiment with varying amounts of nutrient until the ideal amount for the plant species growing is determined.

3
Increase the amount of liquid nutrient beyond the recommended AeroGarden standard, as desired. More is not always better when it comes to fertilizer. Increase the dosage slowly over time and pull back if leggy or weak looking growth results, or fruiting and flowering starts to diminish.
