Place the shamrock pot near a window that receives full all-day sunlight. Shamrocks become weak and leggy if they don't receive enough sun.
Keep the temperature below 75 degrees Fahrenheit during the day, as hot temperatures weaken or force early dormancy in the plants. Shamrocks tolerate temperatures as low as 50 degrees Fahrenheit at night.
Water shamrock plants when the soil in the pot feels almost dry. Provide just enough water to lightly moisten the soil.
Fertilize the plant with a soluble feed formulated for indoor foliage plants. Apply the fertilizer at half the recommended monthly rate on the label. Only fertilize when the shamrock is actively growing during the winter and spring season.
Stop watering and fertilizing the plant when the foliage begins to die and drop off in the summer. Move the shamrock to a cool, dark place. Store the dormant plant in this location for two to three months.
Move the pot back to a well-lit area and resume regular watering once new growth appears in the fall. Remove any dead leaves from the pot so the new foliage can grow in.
