How to Grow Snowdrops Indoors

Outdoors, snowdrops are one of the first spring bulbs to bloom, but indoors, gardeners can enjoy these delicate-looking white flowers any time of year. In order to get a snowdrop bulb to grow and bloom indoors, gardeners must trick it into believing that winter in nearly gone and spring is on the way. Snowdrops grow only 4 to 10 inches tall, and look their best when lots of bulbs are planted together in a shallow pot.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Fill the bottom of the pot with soil to a depth of 2 inches from the top.

    • 2

Place 15 snowdrop bulbs on top of the soil with the pointed end up. Space the bulbs evenly around the pot and don’t allow them to touch the sides.

    • 3

Fill in around the bulbs with potting soil, and then add an additional inch of soil over the top of the bulbs. Firm the soil gently, but don’t pack it down.

    • 4

Fill the pot with water until it drains out the bottom. After an hour, empty out the water that has collected in the saucer.

    • 5

Place the pot of bulbs in a plastic bag and refrigerate it until shoots emerge.

    • 6

Remove the pot from the bag and place it in a brightly lit room. Water the pot often enough to keep the soil lightly moist, but not soggy.
