Change the water weekly if you grow your lily bamboo in water. Use bottled or filtered water and allow the water to come to room temperature before placing the lily bamboo into it.
Pot the lily bamboo in a mixture of equal parts of peat moss, pine bark and potting soil. If it is particularly tall, add an equal part of sand to help hold it up.
Keep the soil moist but not soggy, and the room temperature between 70 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit.
Place the lily bamboo in a lightly shaded area of the home. If the leaf edges turn yellow or brown, it may be getting too much sunlight. You may need to experiment with different light levels until you find the ideal situation for the lily bamboo.
Fertilize the lily bamboo growing in water every other month. Dilute a liquid houseplant fertilizer with an equal portion of water and add one or two drops to the water. Feed the soil-grown lily bamboo with houseplant food, diluted to the strength recommended for the size of your plant.
