How Often to Use Miracle-Gro on Indoor Plants

Unlike outdoor plants, indoor plants have a limited amount of soil that can become overloaded with chemical salts if you use too much chemical fertilizer. Thankfully, brands like Miracle-Gro make special blends specifically meant for indoor plants.
  1. All Purpose Packets

    • The Miracle-Gro all purpose watering solution comes in small packets and can be poured directly into a gallon of water, where it instantly dissolves. For indoor plants, Miracle-Gro recommends using one packet for every two gallons of water. The solution can be used every 7 to 14 days for fast-growing plants and less frequently for slow-growing plants.

    Orchid

    • One prized indoor plant of many gardeners is orchids. Orchids require a unique approach for providing them with Miracle Gro. In fact, they even require special fertilizer blends with specific nutrients. According to Miracle-Gro, 1/4 teaspoon of their orchid formula should be added to each gallon of water and applied every two weeks during the orchid’s active growing season. During the orchid’s rest period, it should be applied in the same ratio every four weeks.

    All-Purpose Granules

    • The Miracle-Gro all purpose granules can be used for most other indoor plants. Mix one-half teaspoon of Miracle-Gro with one gallon of water and apply to the plant’s soil every two weeks. Miracle-Gro does not recommend foliage feeding indoor plants.

    Liquid Houseplant Food

    • Miracle-Gro liquid houseplant food is specially formulated for houseplants. For this fertilizer, the instructions recommend adding between 10 and 20 drops per quart of water. This fertilizer can be applied every time you water the plants and should be applied to both the soil and foliage.
