How to Grow Paperwhite Narcissus Indoors

Paperwhite narcissus are members of the daffodil family that are not cold hardy enough to survive in many parts of the United States. You can still grow them if you keep them in containers indoors. The bulbs will grow easily and quickly in a vase that is tall and wide to support the stems. You can also plant them in a pot, if you insert a twig or stake as a support for when the stems get long.

Instructions

    • 1

Pour a 2-inch layer of small pebbles into the bottom of the vase or plant pot. Place the bulbs on top of the pebbles, with the tips pointing up and the wider base pointing down. The bulbs can be crowded, so fit in as many as you can into the vase.

    • 2

Add more pebbles until the level is almost at the top of the bulbs. The tips should be above the pebble layer.

    • 3

Pour water into the plant container until the water reaches the base of the bulbs. Set the vase in a cool spot in indirect sunlight that is between 50 and 60 degrees F until the bulbs begin to sprout.

    • 4

Move the vase to a sunny window. Refresh the water level whenever it gets low.
