Gather seeds. If possible, harvest seeds from mature fruit still attached to the tree and avoid using seed from fruit that has fallen to the ground, as this may have come into contact with soil-borne fungi.
Rinse extracted seeds thoroughly in water. If the seeds cannot be planted immediately, spread them on an absorbent paper away from sunlight until they dry, then store them at a temperature between about 40 and 45 degrees Fahrenheit until they can be planted.
Prepare the container and potting media. Make sure that the container has adequate drainage holes and fill the container or flat with a well-draining soil or potting mix.
Plant the seeds. The seeds should be planted one-half inch deep or placed on the soil surface and covered with one-half inch of substrate.
Mist the soil or ensure that it is evenly watered and moist. Cover the container or flat with clear plastic or glass to maintain high humidity.
Keep the seeds in a warm place with a temperature between about 70 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit. The seeds may benefit from a location that receives direct sunlight if it will not dry out or overheat the seeds.
Maintain humidity and warmth until seedlings emerge, which will occur within about two weeks. Reduce the humidity and, once the seedlings are about 4 inches tall, replant them into larger containers or into the ground.
