How to Grow Yucca in a Pot

Whether for transplanting to an outdoor garden or into a larger pot for indoor enjoyment, yucca plants may begin their lives inside under the right circumstances. Yucca grows large with enough space. The versatile plant is durable and does well even in poor soil. The plant survives a variety of weather changes, making it good for locations with a range of temperatures each season. For the person without the space for these sturdy plants, grow them in pots indoors.

Instructions

    • 1

Soak yucca seeds in hot water for at least 24 hours. This begins germination.

    • 2

Fill a peat or pea planting pot about 2 inches from the top with sand and peat soil. Moisten the mix with water.

    • 3

Place two to three seeds in the pot’s center and cover them with one-half inch of soil.

    • 4

Place the small pot in a plastic bag and seal the bag. Tie the bag at the top or use a zipper-sealed bag.

    • 5

Place the seedlings in a sunny spot where the temperature stays around 60 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit.

    • 6

Remove the plastic when the small plants emerge from the soil. Transplant when the plant reaches 4 to 5 inches. Keep the seedlings in sunlight in a warm spot.
