How to Make Small Newspaper Pots From Paper

Use newspaper to make biodegradable seed starter pots. Children can be drafted into helping make these newspaper pots, which require just a small piece of masking tape to fasten together. Once the newspaper pots are constructed, they can be filled with potting soil and seeds for an indoor head start on the growing season. Indoor seedlings should be watered daily and receive plenty of sunlight or artificial light.

Instructions

    • 1

Rip one single sheet of newspaper in half, widthwise, to make a square.

    • 2

Place the glass jar on its side on the edge of the center of the square. Roll the jar to cover it with the newspaper.

    • 3

Fold the newspaper neatly against the bottom of the jar. Rip off a 2-inch section of masking tape and secure the bottom folds with the tape.

    • 4

Slide the jar out of the newspaper. Fold the top edges of the newspaper pot 1 inch down twice to the inside of the pot.

    • 5

Fill the pot three-fourths full with the potting soil and plant the seeds according to the directions on the seed packet. Repeat all steps for additional newspaper pots and place the pots on a plastic tray in a sunny location.
