Wash some small pebbles, gravel or clay pellets in a colander. Run the water over the pebbles until it runs clear.
Choose a container to grow your Monstera deliciosa. Wash the container in hot, soapy water and then rinse thoroughly. The size of the container should be 2 to 3 inches larger than your plant's container.
Place a 1- to 2-inch layer of the small pebbles at the bottom of the container.
Remove the Monstera deliciosa from its container. Gently remove the soil from the root ball. Wash the root under tepid running water to remove all the soil.
Insert the roots into the container and spread them across the bottom of the container. You don’t want them to be in a clump.
Place gravel or pebbles into the container. Add enough gravel or pebbles to cover the roots and helps support the stem of the plant. There should be a 4-inch space from the top of the pebbles to the rim of the container.
Pour spring water or well water into the container until the roots are submerged and part of the stem is under water. The water should not touch the leaves.
Mix a solution of water-soluble powdered plant food to a gallon of water. Use only half the recommended amount of fertilizer.
Pour out the water in your container after seven days and pour in the fertilized water.
Monitor the water level and fill as needed.
